The Treasury is seeking a dynamic senior executive as Assistant Secretary, SES Band 1 for our Member Outcomes and Governance Branch in the Retirement Advice and Investment Division, to provide strategic vision, delivery and leadership on policy issues in relation to the superannuation system.

You will be responsible for providing advice to Government on policy issues, including regulatory and structural reforms, which aim to improve the efficiency and governance of the superannuation system, such as those recommended by the Financial Services Royal Commission and Productivity Commission Inquiry into Superannuation (implemented through the Your Future, Your Super Act). The Branch also considers insurance arrangements in superannuation, and industry disclosure and investment practices.

Desirable experience and qualifications

You will have strong leadership and collaboration skills to provide trusted and influential advice and analysis, engage with our stakeholders and partners, build capability, and ensure effective and efficient delivery of our priorities.
You will be responsible for leading a Branch, including people and capability management, financial management, and overall responsibility for the delivery of objectives and will actively contribute to the overall culture and purpose of Treasury.

To be successful, you must be able to demonstrate you have:

  • strong leadership skills, including through building and developing a high performing team to deliver on key priorities;
  • well developed judgement and strategic thinking skills;
  • an ability to develop productive, collaborative relationships across a range of highly diverse stakeholders;
  • the ability to operate in a fast-paced and changing environment and lead a diverse team; and
  • strong communication skills.

Relevant work and technical experience and tertiary qualifications are highly desirable. The position can be based in Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne.
